Our "Unsung Heroes" pictured with Nick Magallanes, Health LA to Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN). The work that led our Heroes to be nominated was discussed. Particular topics of interest included obesity in Tennessee, other chronic disease rates in the state, funding levels for prevention and other public health topics. Similar meetings were held with: Kathryn Tanner, Nutrition LA to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY); Debbie Jessup, Health LA to Representative Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA); Ciren Lindgrensavage, Health LA to Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA); and Ruth Katz, Chief Pubic Health Counsel to Congressman Henry Waxman (D-CA).
Representative Roybal-Allard (D-CA) meets Dr. Garcia. Ms. Marjorie Lunsford's daughters and daughter in-law with Representative Phil Roe, MD (R-TN). Senator Barbara Boxer's staff, senior staff from Speaker Pelosi's office and Senator McCain's offices all met the winners in the morning. Both Representatives Raul Grijalva and Gabrielle Gifforts met the winners that afternoon.
